Button Swap Update!

Cindy Wimmer of Sweet Bead Studio is hosting a Button Swap and Blog Hop. Button lovers from all over were paired up to swap 4 buttons and then on May 13th, reveal what we made with the buttons.

I was paired up with Karen Mitchell Over the Moon Designs blog.  She sent me buttons all the way from Australia. The swap buttons are all vintage from her stash.

The yellow button may be casein from 1940's and came on a card of buttons used by sales reps to show sizes and colours.  Next to it is one of her oldest buttons, cut glass (??) and brass.  According to her MIL, it came from her grandmothers button jar which would date it to the early 1900's, and she thought it was from an evening caplet of her grandmothers.

The big MOP is abalone and the other is inlayed MOP.

Then she sent me a suprise as well.  Four tiny buttons.  The buttons mini versions of buttons she already has. They're vintage from the 1940's (the green and the yellow) and 1960's (black and silver).

Now what to make with these wonderful buttons........

Vocal Focal Bead Swap

Bonnie of Jasper's Gems is hosting a bead swap of focal beads/pendants only.  I think that this is a great idea, because I don't have a lot of focals in my stash.  Be sure to stop by her blog on May 5 for the reveal!  I received my focal(s) from my partner Lori Finney, Using My Beads blog, and will post pics on the reveal date.  I can't wait to see what others ended up with.

VOCAL FOCAL BEAD SWAP REVEAL

My partner for this swap, Lori Finney, sent me a beautiful lampwork bead made by Leah Nietz.  Right now all I do is look at it.  I am thinking a kumihimo braid might just work.  Lori loves to make beaded beads and also send me one of her wonderful beads in some of my favorite colors!  Thank you Lori!

I've Been Bird Watching

About a week ago I noticed an bird nest in a small tree in our front yard.  I pass it every day on my way to the mailbox.   A few days ago as I passed the tree, I noticed a flash of blue.  Lo and behold, it was a robin's egg!  I was so excited, I got the camera out and took a picture.

The next day, I noticed a robin sitting in the nest!  Mom Robin is on the job, but she flies away everytime someone opens the front door.  But I was diligent and managed to capture a pic of the new mom.

I researched robins and discovered that the female lays one egg per day.  She may end up with four in her clutch.  So I checked the next day, but no other eggs.  However, today is full of suprises.......now there are two!

I now feel like a nature photographer.  I love macro and telephoto lenses!  I hope to get photos of chicks in a few weeks.
