2013 Year of Jewelry, Week 11, Rescued from the Scrap Bin

As part of the continuing challenge, 2013 Year of Jewelry Facebook group participants are to create a jewelry design each week according to the weeks' theme.  The theme for Week 10 is "Rescued from the Scrap Bin."

A while back, I purchased a lot (almost 1 pound) of brass findings that someone on Ebay wanted to  get rid of.  I love finds like this, and once every few months I like to purchase estate goodies like boxes of vintage jewelry and findings.  But this haul of brass findings exceeded my expectations.

So what to make.....No idea what to do with the brass yet.

However, my brother in law just got back from a trip to Thailand.  He bought a bracelet for my mother in law that was made of carnelian/agate and howlite.  She said the bracelet was too heavy for her wrist and asked me to make a pair of earrings with the beads instead.  Here is the bracelet.  She also gave me a pair of earrings to repair for her (she tried to fix them herself).

My MIL wanted earrings made with howlite/carnelian/howlite.  I also made more pairs as a surprise for her.

So these will be my Week 11, Rescued from the Scrap Bin.  My MIL probably would never have worn the bracelet as it was again, but I hope she will be happy with what I made for her.

BSBP#8: The Big Reveal

Right to the good stuff..... Made with Rhonda's beaded bead, crystals, and agate rondelles. Made with Rhonda's (she made it) clasp and lampwork focal. Bracelet made with brown rainbow bugle beads supplied by Rhonda. Bracelet is based on a tutorial, Toskana by SeeBead .  I used Czech twins instead of tila or tile beads.  I didn't have enough tile beads so the twins made a wonderful substitution. Soup I started with. Thank you Lori for hosting a wonderful 8th swap and blog hop!  Thank you Rhonda for a most enjoyable soup!  To see other simmering soups and creations visit the BSBP blog for the list of participants (about 500)! Problem: Northridge Publishing Company (Bead Trends Magazine)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I was a long time reader of Bead Trends Magazine .  It was a publication filled with beautiful handmade jewelry and inspiration.  But now the not so beautiful side to Northridge Publishing Company.   Bead Trends last issue was for July.  I don't know about anyone else, but Northridge Publishing Company did not notify me that the magazine would no longer be published. I used my credit card to set up monthly transactions for the magazine. Evidence of Bead Trends disappeared from all social media outlets.  So I went to the website and deleted my credit card information.  Charges continued to show up on my statement for August, September, and October.  If a charge shows up for November....... I contacted Northridge Publishing Company several times via their chat room.  No response.  I sent two emails.  Finally today, I received an email from their customer service. 7th Bead Soup Blog Party: 1st Reveal!!!

Here is a pic of my final design for the 7th Bead Soup Blog Party , hosted by Lori Anderson of Pretty Things.  It was a lot of fun, and I still have about 50% of party goer blogs to visit. Last minute additions:  Working with leftover soup!  Bracelet made with gorgeous teal agates.  I love the clasp.  I didn't know it was a clasp until it stuck to some metal chain.  Investigating further, I found it was a magnetic clasp.  How cool is that?  Jayashree sent me a wonderful soup.  Believe it or not, I still have more soup!  Stay tuned for more. Now, what to do with the brass stampings..... Just added a few swarovski pearls and walla!  Dangle earrings! Now it is time for me to show off some of what I made with the bead soup from Jayashree Paramesh, Nchantme . The funny thing is, I am not done yet.  I have soup leftover.  I will post more, if I have time. Don't forget to stop by Jayashree...
